Thirsk Tip: Lui Rei

Looks a much improved sprinter in his second season with Robert Cowell. Finished a close fifth in the race last year.

In his second season with trainer Robert Cowell, Italian import Lui Rei is starting to make some real progress. He won his last race by a comfortable 1.5 lengths from Judge’n’ Jury who went and franked the form by winning at York this week.

Lui Rei finished fifth in this race last year, only 2.25 lengths behind the winner, and was never given a hard time by his jockey when the gaps didn’t appear. He returns to race in the 4.05 Thirsk off a 2lbs lower mark but in much better form.

He is a sprinter going in the right direction and I’m surprised he is not favourite for the race. At 15/2 with Boylesports he is the value bet.
