Thirsk Tips: Lucky Beggar

Lucky Beggar has been slightly disappointing this season but he is dangerously well handicapped off a mark of 84 if he can rediscover his best form.

There have been glimpses this season, at Newmarket in April he ran better than his finishing position after going it alone on the far side rail and on the July course he finished second last time out.

Having started last season rated in the 100s there is plenty of headroom in his handicap mark and a move to David Griffiths could be the spark he needs. The South Yorkshire trainer is a dab hand at revitalising old sprinters and his exploits with Take Cover is a wonderful advert for his talents.

Lucky Beggar is a previous course winner and although he’s was better at 5f, judging by his entries his new trainer is aiming him at 6f.
