Thirsk Races Tip: Desert Strike

Desperately unlucky in his last two runs, he is holding his form and well drawn.

Desert Strike is a horse who regularly pops up in our tips and he appears again the 6.30 at Thirsk. Since the turn of the year this five year old gelding has been in the form of his life, winning three times. Although a maiden on turf his recent runs suggest there is a win in him.

Over six furlongs at Warwick he was badly hampered when making his move in the last furlong. He eventually finished fourth but would have been much closers with a clear run. Upped in grade, he had no better luck when ninth at Thirsk over five. Although beaten by less than four lengths he never got going and can be rated much better.

There is no doubt he is a tricky ride so it is good to see Robert Winston on board; a very capable jockey who has won twice from five runs on Desert Strike. The draw has also been kind. Housed in stall 17 of 17 he has the favoured stands rail to race against and although he will need the gaps to open up, the fast pace should create those holes.

Trainer Alan McCabe shows a 14% strike rate and almost £76 level stakes profit if you back all his runners at Thirsk. Take Desert Strike to add to the tally.
