Queen’s Vase Tip: Century

Soft ground potentially to blame for latest defeat and Aidan O’Brien has a good record in the race.

Century has run two absolute clunkers on the times I’ve backed him so I’m hoping third time is the charm in the 5.00 Ascot.

In fairness to the horse, soft ground at Doncaster and Chester probably wasn’t to his liking. A better indication of his abilities was his win at the Curragh when he overcame a hopeless position.

Harking back to a victory in October 2013 might seem desperate but Aidan O’Brien wouldn’t be running him at Royal Ascot if he wasn’t a capable horse.

The Queen’s Vase has been used on numerous occasions to restore reputations, especially by the County Tipperary trainer.

In the last ten years, O’Brien runners have finished 29414261421, more than 50% have finished in the first two.

I’m hoping Century can live up to the reputation he earned as a two-year-old and at 9/2 (William Hill) he looks a fair bet.
