Jersey Stakes Tip: Remarkable
Beaten by a horse that enjoyed a soft lead but finished strongly, clocking the fastest closing sectional on the card by 0.86s.
Log Out Island grabbed the headlines when winning a Listed race at Newbury by 3.25 lengths but the remarkable performance came from – well – Remarkable.
Log Out Island was soon 10 lengths clear of the pack but James Doyle should take the plaudits because he stole an easy lead and then set the perfect fractions. His finishing speed was 101.7% of his average speed and very close to par for the track.
Unfortunately the rest of the jockeys were caught napping and Remarkable emerges with huge credit. Eleven lengths in arrears with 4f to go, he narrowed the gap to 3.25 lengths at the finishing line by running the fastest closing sectional at the meeting by an amazing 0.86s.
After the race connections suggested the Jersey Stakes was under consideration as long as the ground wasn’t too quick and that is exactly what he’s got.
In defeat, I gave Remarkable an adjusted speed rating of 99 and he is a potentially smart horse.
