Queen Mary Stakes Tips: Barroche
Lady Aureila could have her speed blunted on soft ground and Barroche will get the perfect tow into the race.
Wes Ward won last year’s renewal with the monstrous filly Acapulco and he could score again with favourite Lady Aurelia. She blitzed her rivals on debut at Keenland winning by 7.5 lengths but soft turf is a completely different prospect and it could blunt her speed.
Barroche is drawn next door and could be the one to pick up the pieces. She won for us at Bath last month and actually ran much better than expected. The win wasn’t a surprise but the manner was hugely impressive.
Dictating affairs from the front, she quickened away nicely to register the fastest closing sectional and score by 3.75 lengths. She earned a speed rating of 81 for her win, better than anything in the Queen Mary field has achieved (bar Lady Aurelia) but when you adjust for pace, her speed rating hits 100.
We don’t know how good the American filly is but Barroche looks the best of the home challenge.
