Nunthorpe Tips: Take Cover
Keeps winnings races despite running in a sub-optimal manner. If James Doyle can judge the fractions right we could be in for a special performance.
Regular readers won’t be surprised to see Take Cover is our selection for the Nunthorpe (3.40 York).
He first caught the eye at Lingfield over the winter when runner-up in a fast time despite running in a sub-optimal manner. His finishing speed of 97.9% was much slower than par.
Sectional clock watchers had to wait a while to be rewarded with consecutive victories at York and then Goodwood, the latter coming at Group 2 level.
Yet again sectional timings hold the key.

Take Cover managed to win despite slowing and hanging (possibly due to tiredness) in the final two furlongs and to beat a strong field with a finishing speed of 98.8% is impressive.
The obvious conclusion is that Take Cover is a very smart individual. He is 2/2 over course and distance and this talented sprinter can take the spoils at 8/1 (Paddy Power).
