Goodwood Tips: Take Cover

Not beaten far in the King’s Stand after a long lay-off and built on that promise with an impressive victory at York in a fast time.

Not many horses have given me more pleasure than Take Cover did in victory at York, and he can reaffirm his potential in the 3.40 Goodwood.

He first caught the eye in November when beaten 0.25 lengths by Valbchek at Lingfield. It was a terrific performance because he ran a fast time despite going off too quick and tiring in the final 2f. His finishing speed of 97.9% is much slower than the 102.5% par.

Last time out at York he seemed to go off quick again (sectionals impossible to calculate from the camera angle) but this time he finished strongly, fighting off the second, third and fourth placed horses who all rallied from the rear.

I think Take Cover is a Group 1 horse in the making; he wasn’t beaten far in the King’s Stand after a long lay-off and at 10/1 (Boylesports) he is a cracking bet.
