York Tips: Take Cover

A big sectional eye-catcher over the winter and only beaten 3 lengths in a Group 1 on his first start in 7 months.

Take Cover is a horse I’ve been looking to support since he caught my eye during the winter.

He put in one of the best sprint performances of the all-weather season when beaten 0.25 lengths by Valbchek at Lingfield.

Oisin Murphy tried to make all but got the fractions wrong and ended up going off too quick. He ran the first 4f in 45.8s, which is the quickest I have on record this winter.

It was a terrific effort to finish only 0.25 lengths behind the winner, despite tiring noticeably in the final 2f and recording a finishing speed of 97.9%.

Take Cover was my outstanding sectional eye-catcher of the winter and he confirmed that promise by finishing three lengths behind Sole Power in the King’s Stand on his first start in 7 months.

He is a previous course and distance winner and overpriced at 13/2 (Paddy Power).
