Beverley Tips: Stepper Point

Performances have improved since the application of cheek-pieces and starting to fulfil his potential.

The 2.30 Beverley is a cracking sprint with plenty of old favourites in the field. Borderlescott won the race last year and it would be a great story if he won it again but the 11-year-old is not in top form.

The winner looks like coming from the younger generations and I’ve been impressed by Stepper Point on his last few starts.

He has been a fixture in this type of race for a couple of years now but if I’m honest I always thought William Muir overrated him; he’d been well beaten in seven starts in Group company before this season.

Recent performances have made me reconsider this opinion, especially after his win at Nottingham. William Muir says he has found the key to him and his return to form has coincided with the application of cheek-pieces.

The way he powered away from a decent field at Nottingham suggests he might be the star connections thought he would become. At 11/1 (Stan James) he looks a good bet.
