Beverley Tips: Euro Mac
Not beaten far by 80 rated horse and although early pace was ludicrously slow her closing sectional was only 0.22s worse than winner’s.
Backing Euro Mac to win the 3.40 Beverley has the potential to go drastically run but the odds warrant the risk. When we tipped him six days ago she bolted to post, unseated her rider and was withdrawn but her price contracted before the off and although this is harder she’s worth an interest again.
A maiden after nine starts, Euro Mac was consigned to the scrap heap until a remarkable performance at Ripon got me thinking otherwise.
She finished 1.75 lengths behind the 80 rated Mujaamil and although flattered by her proximity to the winner the sectionals are encouraging. The early pace was farcically slow (113.4% finishing speed) therefore Euro Mac was never stretched but her closing sectional was only 0.22s slower than the winner and she earned an adjusted speed rating of 76.
In these extreme pace scenarios (very quick or very slow) adjusted speed ratings become less reliable but the collateral form is interesting. The winner flopped next time but the third place horse, Aloysius Hansom, ran well at Thirsk.
Euro Mac could have fluked her second place at Ripon or is quite a bit better than her mark of 55. Well find out the answer this afternoon and at 28/1 I’m happy to pay to the price.
