Beverley Tips: Mister Manannan

5lbs lower than when victorious over course and distance in April. Recent poor form excused because of soft ground.

Bondi Beach Boy goes for his eighth win of the year in the 5.40 Beverley but this could be where he comes unstuck.

James Turner’s four-year-old enjoyed the run of the race last time out and we learnt nothing new. He faces another jump in class tonight and although he might be good enough to win, at the current prices I can’t back him because we are delving into the unknown.

A better bet is Mister Manannan because he is proven at this level. He started the season with a win over course and distance; particularly impressive because he came from last to first in a race run at a moderate gallop.

His form has been pretty abject since but he’s had excuses. He found traffic problems at Chester and Musselburgh in the first part of the summer and has struggled to find his ground since.

Mister Manannan needs good ground but he’s been forced to race on good to soft lately. As a result he’s 5lbs below his last winning mark and an attractive price at 7/1 (William Hill).
