Beverley Tips: Free Zone

Previous course and distance winner, whilst his opposition all have negatives to overcome.

Free Zone looks the best bet in the 3.10 Beverley by the process of elimination. Burning Thread and Kool Henry look outclassed, Tax Free needs a sounder surface and Es Que Love is better over 6f.

Ponty Acclaim has run some good races this season but mainly at York. I suspect she prefers more of a speed test and she finished 2 lengths behind Free Zone on her last start.

Free Zone has plenty in his favour. He won over course and distance earlier in the season, handles cut in the ground and has a good strike rate for a sprinter. Two starts ago he looked slightly unlucky in the Beverley Bullet. It’s difficult to judge from the head-on camera angle but he seemed to lose a couple of lengths at the start after his jockey was slow in removing the hood.

He was only beaten by 4 lengths and with a better start he could have halved the deficit. He placed in a Group 3 sprint earlier in the year, which is about the best form on offer. At 11/4 (Bodog) he looks a decent bet with question marks over the opposition.
