Beverley Tips: Doc Hay

A big improver last season, placed in a listed contest on his last start. Hails from a yard in fantastic form.

The 3.20 Beverley is an even contest on last year’s form but Doc Hay could progress past them all.

He started 2011 rated 68 before moving through the handicap ranks to finish with a mark of 90. Arguably, his best run came in his last race, where he finished third in the listed Wentworth Stakes at Doncaster. Considering he was drawn wide and is more effective at 5f it was a meritorious performance.

Trainer Keith Dalgleish enjoyed a fantastic 2011, sending out 39 winners in the calendar year. Considering it was his debut season, it was a remarkable performance and the way he has started 2012 he could surpass those high standards. He enjoys a 22% strike rate this year and has booted home 3 winners from his last 8 runners.

Further rain is forecast at Beverley today and if the ground rides slow, it should play to Doc Hay’s strength. He enjoys a stiff 5f and if he gets the gaps, his hold up style of racing can be put to good use at 7/1 (Betfred).
