Beverley Tips: Bondi Beach Boy

Won five times this season and by using sectional timings we discover what an exciting prospect he is.

Bondi Beach Boy has won five times this season and is a progressive individual but the extent of his ability only becomes apparent when looking at the sectional timings of his wins.

The table displays the time taken to cover the first 2f at Beverley as a percentage of the overall time. The lower the percentage the quicker the leader covered the first 2f and vice-versa.

The key race to study is from 30 July 2013. Bondi Beach Boy won by only a neck, a narrow margin of victory but it was still an excellent performance. He covered the first 2f in 56.9%, which is far too quick, a better judgement of pace is around the 58% mark.

Usually such a quick 2f would cause the horse to tire at the finish and fade out of contention but Bondi Beach Boy kept going and won. His speed rating of 67 (taking into account going) was equivalent to his previous victories despite the race not being run at an optimal pace.

The only conclusion I can reach is that Bondi Beach Boy is a very good horse, certainly better than a class 5 handicapper, because most horses can’t survive such a strong early gallop.
