Beverley Tip: Argentine

Having his first run for Ian Semple and finally has his preferred quick ground. Could run much better than his price suggests.

Despite racing from out of the handicap Argentine has a chance in the 2.35 at Beverley. The key to this horse is quick ground and a stiff track, conditions he has struggled to find in the last 12 months.

His record when racing on going rated good to firm is 5 wins from 19 races, a good strike rate for a handicapper. He has had those conditions twice this year. At Musselburgh he finished 5th on a track that is too sharp for him. The other time he finished 7th in an amateurs event, often races that don’t go to form.

He has spent most of the year with George Foster, who has had a mediocre season and struggled to get the best out of this horse. It is no surprise that connections have moved him to Ian Semple in the hope a change of scenery can spark a rival.

Argentine started to show some semblance of form recently with finishes of 2546 mainly on unsuitable soft ground. The switch in yard often brings about rapid improvement and racing on a stiff track with firm ground could see him spring a surprise at best odds of 16/1 with Totesport.
