Beverley Bullet Tips: Dinkum Diamond

Third in the race last year and the better ground and bigger field are more in his favour.

The Beverley Bullet (4.15) has a big field, which should generate a strong early pace. My focus is therefore on horses who like to be held up and that leads me to my selection – Dinkum Diamond.

He finished a close third in the race last year but the ground should be much more in his favour this time round. All of his wins have come on good to firm but I think he can get away with good ground; he just wouldn’t want any description with ‘soft’ in it.

After a slow start to the campaign, Henry Candy’s four-year-old is hitting form at the right time. He won a small conditions event on his last start beating Masamah, Move in Time and Noble Storm, all of whom reoppose today.

His best run of the year was in a Group 3 contest at Sandown in July when fifth. He was checked for room towards the finish and the ground was against him, so he did well to get in the mix.

If the ground continues to dry out, then by race time odds of 17/2 (Stan James) could look very big.
