Arnold Palmer Invitational Tips: Jimmy Walker

Big hitter who ranks sixth on tour for birdie average. Bay Hill suits his game & finished T24 last year.

Jimmy Walker’s career has been a bit of a slow burner but after a T4 at the Farmers Insurance Open, I think he is ready to land his maiden tour victory.

The 34-year-old’s record is one of steady progress but the bookmakers have been slow to react.

End of year FedEx Cup standings:
2008: 192
2009: 148
2010: 72
2011: 68
2012: 43
2013: 15

Currently 15th in the FedEx Cup standings, he has made every cut so far this season, with four top-25s to his name. Ranked 23rd for driving distance and 6th for birdie average, Bay Hill is a course that should suit his game. The fairways are generous and you need to make birdies to cancel out the inevitable dropped shots.

Last year Walker finished a respectable T24, shooting the joint-third best round on Sunday. With top five finishes at Torrey Pines and Pebble Beach, he can mix it with the best and at 80/1 (BetVictor) he is a good each-way bet with ¼ odds for a top-6 finish.
