Arnold Palmer Invitational Tip: Cameron Smith

Arnold Palmer Invitational Tip: Cameron Smith

Never featured at the Valspar but another cut made and plays difficult courses well.

Cameron Smith couldn’t quite get going at the Valspar Championship last week but he remains in my staking plan. He battled back from a difficult opening round to make the cut and although he finished T49, it was another cheque for the young Australian.

As I mentioned last week there is statistically plenty to like about the 23-year-old. He plays tough courses well, which Bay Hill is, and has an excellent short game.

Smith’s weakness is his driving, he’s moderately long but not very straight. However, of the last ten champions, none has been ranked better on tour than 55th for driving accuracy and the average rank is 131st!

This is Smith’s debut at Bay Hill but he’s 54th in scoring average this season and his consistency (9/11 cuts made) will eventually be rewarded with a high finish. Back him at 200/1 (Stan James) and get 1/4 odds for a top-6 finish
