The Marvellous William McGirt

Arnold Palmer Invitational: The Marvellous William McGirt

Currently ranked fifth in adjusted scoring average and finished T8 at Bay Hill in 2013.

Finding winners has been difficult on the PGA Tour of late but one reliable pointer remains – adjusted scoring average.

Year after year the best players rise to the top of this metric and now we are well into the season the 2016 statistics become reliable. The usual names of Mickelson, Scott, Fowler and McIlroy reside at the top of the list but nicely positioned in fifth is William McGirt.

The 36-year-old is having a quietly spectacular season, he has missed two cuts and finished inside the top-30 in the other seven tournament he has contested.

McGirt isn’t the longest hitter on tour but neither was Matt Every when he won (twice) at Bay Hill and the scene looks set for another upset.

McGirt’s record at the Arnold Palmer Invitational is T38-T63-T8-MC-T59 and he must be backed before the bookmakers wake up to his excellent form.

At 80/1 he is a rare two-point each-way selection with Skybet going the extra place; 1/4 odds for a top-6 finish.
