Everton 2013-14 Preview

Having lost a terrific manager in David Moyes, Roberto Martinez is tasked with keeping the good times coming at Goodison Park.

Best odds to finish top four: 22/1 (StanJames)
Last season: 6th

Reasons for hope:

Roberto Martinez seems as likely to successfully fill the boots of David Moyes as anyone. The Spaniard worked miracles with Wigan for several seasons before relegation finally caught up with the Latics. Martinez even arrives at Goodison with the FA Cup newly added to his CV and so far he has persuaded the big Everton players to stay put.

Potential bet: Everton to finish top six - 4/1 (Skybet)

Reasons to worry:

The good news could very rapidly turn into the bad if Baines and Fellaini up sticks and follow Moyes to United. The bookies think this potential Toffees nightmare will probably unfold with the left-back nothing longer than 4/6 (Ladbrokes) to go to Old Trafford while the Belgian is just 1/3 (BetVictor) to join the champions.

Potential bet: Everton to finish bottom half - 9/2 (BetVictor). If the crown jewels are sold then suddenly a dive down the table could occur.

Verdict:

So much depends on the state of play when the transfer window slams shut. If the star men both stay then 6th is very achievable; if they both depart then 7th-9th seems most likely.
