Cheltenham v Everton Tip

We would have won this tip in every one of the last 17 Toffees games.

There’s one more ‘David-versus-Goliath’ tie still to be played in the FA Cup third round when Cheltenham Town entertain Everton on Monday night. So far only one Premier League outfit has fallen to lower league opposition; Newcastle’s demise at Championship Brighton was anticipated by many, this would be very different.

The Merseysiders are still flying high in the top flight and it’s hard to quibble with best odds of 1/3 (PaddyPower) on the away win against League 2 players. However, the value bet may be on both teams to score - an evens money prospect with Bet365*.

Remarkably, both teams have scored in Everton’s last 17 fixtures across all competitions. David Moyes has been infuriated by the dropping of crucial points in the race for a top four finish and the lack of clean sheets has been the primary cause. He would love one tonight, but the resting of key players will make that prospect all the more unlikely.

As for Cheltenham, they can take heart from the performances of many other ‘minnows’ already over third round weekend. Mansfield showed the value of home advantage, even for a non-league side, when they gave Liverpool a fright on Sunday. The hosts found the net and had a remarkable 13 shots on target against the Reds.

If the Robins can rise to the occasion, both sets of fans should have something to cheer in the course of 90 minutes, as well as us come full-time.

*Bets odds of 11/10 with Betfred went while this tip was being written. There’s still value at evens but not if the price contracts further.
