Thirsk Tips: Barney McGrew
Dropped to a winnable handicap mark and the field looks exposed at this level.
Barney McGrew ran well to finish fourth when I tipped him two starts ago and I see no reason to desert him. The logic is still the same. Having been rated in the 100s for much of his career he has dropped to a handicap mark that allows him to compete in much easier races.
The 3.00 Thirsk is a class 4 handicap, a level that should be within his capabilities. Last time out he was unlucky to bump into a progressive rival, but he still finished well ahead of the pack in second. There is always the danger a younger horse can get the better of him but this contest is restricted to 4-year-olds and upwards, with the field looking exposed.
Equally effective at 5 or 6 furlongs I expect Barney McGrew to win a race soon and this could be the day.
