Royal Ascot Live Blog – Day 3

The latest news and moves in the betting on day 3 of Royal Ascot. Updated through the day.

9.00: Welcome to Ladies Day at Royal Ascot and predictably, the bad weather has arrived. The going at Royal Ascot is now good to soft following 8mm of rain overnight.

The Going Stick readings have supposedly been updated but I’m not convinced. They are exactly the same as yesterday which seems strange considering the overnight rain.

9.25: Our racing tipster is predicting a good day for Clive Cox, backing two of his runners on Ladies Day. You can read all three of his selections here.

10.10: The most popular horse today amongst the newspaper tipsters is The Fugue (5/2 Bet365). The selection of 8 pundits, she was the unlucky horse in the Oaks at Epsom and looks for redemption in the Ribblesdale at 3.05.

10.45: Here are the early market movers at Royal Ascot today:

2.30 Reckless Abandon +2.88%
3.05 Kailani +2.31%
3.45 Fame And Glory +2.38%
4.25 Frog Hollow +2.42%
5.00 Rewarded +4.98%
5.35 Star Date +7.22%

11.26: If you are having a bet today be sure to check out the money back specials on the Ribblesdale Stakes at 3.05. As per usual we have also listed the bookmakers offering enhanced place terms.

12.09: Just over a couple of hours until the first race at Ascot and Gale Force Ten (15/2 Bet365) is being backed to win the 2.30, having opened at 9/1 this morning.

Our racing tipster’s pick is also being backed with Reckless Abandon, now a best price 6/1 with Sportingbet.

13:15: After So You Think’s fine win yesterday, punters are looking for more of the same as Fame And Glory is being backed into odds-on. Stan James are best price and the only bookmaker showing evens.

A word of warning however, Fame And Glory won last year’s Gold Cup earning a Racing Post Rating of 121, a mark that Saddler’s Rock (9/2 Bet365) and Colour Vision (5/1 Bet365) have both bettered in the last 12 months.

13.24: Later than ideal but the Going Stick readings have just come through:

Stands side - 8.4
Centre - 8.4
Far side - 8.6
Round - 7.2

There is a slight ease in the going since yesterday but the straight course is still riding on the good to firm side of good based on historical readings.

14.15: Not long to go until the first race and Cay Verde (5/2 Bet365) and Reckless Abandon (9/2 Bet365) are the two being backed.

14.32: Reckless Abandon drifts across the track but still manages to win. A good start for our tipster who put him up at 7/1 this morning.

14.40: The Fugue (9/4 Bet365) on the drift, with Kailani and Twirl being backed in opposition for the 3.05 Ribblesdale Stakes.

15.11: Princess Highway wins the Ribblesdale with the field well strung out behind her.

A good renewal of the Ascot Gold Cup is next with Fame And Glory now odds-on across the board. Some money for Gulf of Naples at 33/1 (Bet365), in the hope he can dictate the pace.

15.57: Colour Vision first past the post but a Steward’s Enquiry as he veers into Opinion Poll at the finish. Tough one to call, winning by half a length might just keep him the race.

16.03: Placings unaltered. Colour Vision beats Opinion Poll and our racing tipster breathes a sigh of relief.

16.07: It could be any from 29 in the Britannia Stakes. Trader Jack (12/1), Chapter Seven (16/1) and Piri Wango (18/1 - all Stan James) are proving popular.

16.33: Fast Or Free wins the big handicap with Bronze Angel the unlucky horse in third. Beat everything up the middle of the track then ran out of partners.
