Royal Ascot Live Blog – Day 2

9.00: Welcome to day 2 of Royal Ascot – if we have half the excitement of yesterday, we should be in for a treat. Frankel was the undoubted star, and for those who missed it, here is his 11-length romp.

The going is described as good on the straight course and good to soft, good in places on the round course. At 8am on Wednesday, the Going Stick readings were:

Stands side - 8.7
Centre - 8.9
Far side - 8.8
Round - 7.7

These readings suggest the ground has dried out in the last 24 hrs and that is consistent with the times being clocked yesterday. Compared with historical readings at the track, the straight course is riding on the good to firm side of good, with the round course on the soft side of good.

12:17: Just over two hours until the start of racing and the public are piling into the Queen’s horse - Carlton House (10/3 Bet365). Third in last year’s Derby, he made a winning reappearance at Sandown last month. He sticks to 10f today, with 12f seemingly beyond him last season. 

13.44: A big field of 22 line-up for the Jersey Stakes in just under an hour. The two being backed are Aljamaaheer (9/2 Bet365) and Valbchek (11/2 Bet365). Unbeaten in two starts Valbcheck looks a smart sprinter in the making, the question mark is the extra furlong he races over today. 

14.39: Aiden O’Brien is on the board, perhaps surpsingly as Ishvana wins the first race of the day at 20/1.

Chachamaidee (7/2 Bet365) is all the rage in the 3.05, backed in from 11/2 this morning.

15.19: Chachamaidee gave away five-lengths with a slow start and that could have been costly after she was outstayed by Joviality in the Windsor Forest.

The big race of the day is at 3.45 with So You Think (11/10 Coral) favourite followed by Carlton House at 10/3 (Bet365)

15.40: The money comes for So You Think, now odds-on. Farhh (13/2 Bet365) is unexposed and being backed. Carlton House the drifter.

15.56: As our racing expert predicted, So You Think might not live up to the hype but he was still the best horse in the race. Carlton House second with Farhh unlucky in third after struggling for room.

16.08: Next up is the cavalry charge that is the Royal Hunt Cup; 30 runners with Dimension (6/1 Bet365) the well backed favourite. If you are betting each-way make sure it is with a bookmaker paying out on the first five. Full list of them here.
