Coronation Stakes Trends
We look at the trends that the last five Coronation Stakes winners have followed.
The 3.45 Coronation Stakes looks like a good renewal with English 1000 Guineas form well represented. We have looked at the last five winners to see if any distinguishing trends emerge.
Run in the Guineas
Almost a month after the Irish 1,000 Guineas, the Coronation Stakes sits perfectly in a fillies’ calendar. For those unfortunate not to win a classic it affords them a quick opportunity to gain a Group One win. Four of the last five winners have all run in a Guineas, be it English, Irish or French. Winning form isn’t essential however as only Ghanaati arrived as a champion; the other four Coronation winners were unplaced.
Won at Group level
In such a high quality race the winner needs to have a degree of class. Four of the last last five winners had scored at Group level already, with three of them tasting success in Group Ones.
Achieved a Racing Post Rating of at least 109
The race rarely goes to an unexposed horse, with each of the last five winners having already recording a Racing Post rating of at least 109.
