Ascot Gold Cup Tip: Fictional Account

Closely matched on form with Fame And Glory but ten times the price. Should relish the step up in trip; an each way chance.

The Gold Cup at 3.45 is a fascinating race and the highlight on day three of Royal Ascot. After the retirement of four-time winner Yeats, Ballydoyle send Fame And Glory forward as the heir apparent. An Irish Derby winner and multiple Group One champion he certainly is the classiest animal in the field but he is racing six furlongs further. He is the most likely winner but at 2/1 he doesn’t rate as a good bet.

On the same form line but ten times the price, Fictional Account rates a much better bet. She has twice finished 1.5 lengths behind Fame And Glory but both times over a trip short of her best. A winner at two miles last Autumn the further she goes the better.

The step up in trip plays into her hands, whether it is enough to overturn 1.5 lengths only time will tell. All she needs to do is stay close to the favourite and she should place at 20/1.
