Pontefract Tips: Solar Spirit
Big price for a recent winner and shouldn’t be inconvenienced by the drop in trip.
I’m often surprised that last time out winners aren’t shorter in the betting. We have a perfect example of this in the 3.20 Pontefract.
Solar Spirit was an impressive winner at Wolverhampton a fortnight ago, returning at an SP of 10/1. Racing in the same grade, we can back him at virtually the same price at Pontefract.
I suspect the bookmakers are happy to leave some fat on the price because Solar Spirit has never won over 5furlongs, but he should handle the trip. The early pace at Wolverhampton was strong and he didn’t look tapped for toe.
His record at Pontefract is also impressive, only finishing outside the top-3 once in 5 starts. He is a horse at his best racing around a bend and looks big at 9/1 (Bet365) considering the form he showed 14 days ago.
