Thirsk Tips: Refkektor
Has won on soft ground before but went too fast in testing conditions at Pontefract last time. Not beaten far under the circumstances.
Setting the correct pace in soft/heavy ground isn’t easy and Reflektor was another example of how it can go wrong.
Richard Kingscote set a strong pace (90.3% finishing speed) on Reflektor at Pontefract but the horse had nothing left for the finish in heavy ground on a stiff track.
Considering he was virtually legless in the final furlong it was a fine effort to finish 1.5 lengths behind the winner and record a respectable speed rating to boot.
Adjusting for sectionals, Reflektor earned a speed rating of 94, marking him as potentially much better than his official rating of 85.
The 3-year-old won on soft ground at Leicester last season, so he does handle cut and he should run a big race if granted a slightly easier lead.
