Pontefract Tips: Dragon King
Unexposed at 5f and only just touched off on first attempt at minimum trip.
Dragon King has largely been campaigned over 6f but showed he has the speed for the minimum trip when laying close-up to a very strong pace at Ayr.
One of the last horses off the bridle, it looked like he was coming to collect only to be nabbed on the post by Lexington Place. The winner had been ridden more conservatively and benefited most from the strong gallop, whereas Dragon King can be counted a shade unlucky.
As one of the least exposed 4-year-olds in the race he is open to improvement, especially at the minimum trip. Well drawn in stall one, he can break Paul Midgley’s stranglehold on the race.
