Pontefract Tips: Stardrifter
Raced very wide when beaten over course and distance last season. Clocked second fastest closing sectional on reappearance in a better race than this.
Stardrifter suffered from a very wide trip when he tackled course and distance at the end of last season but he was only beaten 2.25 lengths and can improve on that showing off a 3lbs lower mark.
He shaped well on his seasonal reappearance only beaten 3.25 lengths in a useful looking class 4 handicap. Although he wasn’t an obvious eye-catcher he clocked the second fastest closing sectional and his adjusted speed rating of 80 is good.
The fourth placed horse has franked the form by winning his next two starts and Stardrifter can also benefit from a drop down in grade for the 6.30 Pontefract.
Adam McNamara takes the ride and is good value for his claim. He enjoys a 16% strike rate (9-58) for Richard Fahey from a decent sample size and could make the difference.
