Pontefract Tips: Damika

Perfectly capable of winning a 5f race on soft ground, just bad luck has prevented him from doing so.

Damika has been written off in the 5.20 Pontefract because he’s done all his winning at 6f, but under specific circumstance he is capable of winning at the minimum distance. It’s worth examining in detail the two times he’s run over 5f on soft ground.

21 July 2012 – 5th Newmarket
Beaten 2.75 lengths he was continually hampered in the last furlong. With a clear run he would have gone close to winning this class 3 contest. Races a grade lower today.

20 August 2011 – 2nd Sandown
Beaten by 1 length. Given a clear run he would have won, particularly frustrating after I had backed him at 16/1. Nevertheless, he looked capable of winning a class 3 race on soft ground.

With a bit better luck Damika could be unbeaten over 5f on soft ground. If that were the case I very much doubt he’d be 16/1 (William Hill)
