Pontefract Tip: Who’s Shirl

Won a similar race at the track last year and has conditions to suit.

At the current odds Who’s Shirl looks overpriced for the 3.45 at Pontefract. A winner at the track last September, she had three of today’s rivals behind her. To be at her best she needs six furlongs on fast ground. If you take out her seasonal debuts, her record when she gets these conditions is: 232215117. The worst of those finishes when badly hampered at Haydock.

Her odds for today’s contest are based on a no show at Newcastle last time out. That is forgivable, the field split early on and it looked like a strange race. I wouldn’t trust the form.

If you go back to last season she looked a progressive horse. Having already shown she is up to the grade, at 28/1 it is a good bet she reaches those heights again.
