Pontefract: Lucky Dan

Arrives fresh having been lightly campaigned this season. Last time he raced in a class five contest he won.

With Mr Wolf and Dancing Freddy in the race, we should be guaranteed a good gallop for the 3.40 at Pontefract. That should suit hold up horse Luck Dan, who arrives fresh having only his third start after a summer break.

Last time out he was a well backed favourite at Chester, but he struggled to make headway after getting caught behind horses. When he finally made his run he was tight against the far rail, probably the slowest part of the track. On a day when you had to race prominently, it is fair to say nothing went his way.

Paul Green’s five-year-old drops down a level for this class five contest and should find the competition a little easier. The last time he raced at this level was way back in May 2010 – and he won. On my speed ratings he is the fastest horse in the race and there is no reason why he shouldn’t be able to produce his best with conditions to suit. Back him at best odds of 9/1 with Victor Chandler.
