Play The Banjo

Cape Banjo has clocked two useful speed ratings in defeat and should benefit from the step down in trip.

Graham Gibbons didn’t garner many plaudits when he got Cape Banjo beat last time at Kempton (I backed him that day) but in hindsight he was probably beaten by a useful horse.

The sectionals prove Graham Gibbons went a stride too quick (99% finishing speed vs par of 101.1%) but he still finished three lengths in front of the third horse so it was by no means diabolical. It could be that the horse is better over 7f and he drops back in trip for the 4.00 Kempton.

The positives are that Cape Banjo has clocked two sectional adjusted speed ratings in the mid-70s and that is normally good enough to take an average maiden. The worry is this is an above average race for the grade but Ralph Beckett knows what it takes to win. He won the race in 2014 and saddled the third last year.
