Musselburgh Tips: Gandalak

Raced against a strong draw bias on his last start in France. Has tremendous early pace and potentially better than this grade.

The 2.25 Musselburgh might look an ordinary race but I’m hoping to be rewarded for going that extra mile with my research.

Gandalak has his first UK start for David O’Meara and is the dark horse in the race. Very little is known about the horse but a bit of French research can yield dividends.

According to the Racing Post, he finished 3/3 on his last start in France; that is not the case. There were actually 13 runners and to make matters worse he suffered from a terrible draw.

Using the French video form site Equidia Video, you see that Gandalak was one of a quartet who raced against the nearside rail at Lyon Parilly. Three of that foursome finished well beaten, but to his credit Gandalak kept going to fight out the finish with the main pack.

Previously at Le Croise-Laroche he demolished his five rivals by 3.5 lengths, showing tremendous early pace. Middleham Park Racing paid €30,000 for this colt and they might have a useful sprinter on their hands.

He is well drawn and his blistering early pace should be suited to Musselburgh’s sharp track. I think connections might have an Epsom Dash winner on their hands and racing off 81 he looks well treated on his UK debut. At 7/2 (William Hill) he is a good bet.
