Lingfield Tips: Temple Road

Won three of his last four starts, lightly raced and improving. Owner won the race last year.

The final of the Blue Square Sprint Series (1.55 Lingfield) poses a conundrum. The best horses in the race have the worst draws, and vice-versa. Ideally, I want to back something in stall 1-7 but none of them look capable of taking this competitive handicap.

It will take a big effort to overcome stall 10, but I’m siding with Temple Road. He looks a useful sprinter and still might have some improvement up his sleeve.

Darren Hudson-Wood was the owner of last year’s winner Aldermoor and with over £11,000 to the winner, I suspect he’s targeted this race for sometime.

Having only his 11th start, Temple Road might still be ahead of the handicapper. His performances certainly suggest he is on the upgrade. He’s won three of his last four starts and traded 1.01 in-running in the only race he lost.

Disappointingly, I backed him that day, but the way he stopped when hitting the front I suspect he might have injured himself during the race. Last time out he was back to his best, comfortably winning Round 6 of the series and recording his best Racing Post Rating (81) in the process.

At 7/2 (William Hill) I’m backing him to overcome his tricky draw because he is the best horse in the race.
