Considering Roundabout Magic won a maiden over course and distance two starts back, the handicapper has been generous to actually drop him a lbs. That’s mainly because of his no show at the track last month but it was excusable. He pulled very hard in a steadily run race and had nothing left at the finish, over a trip that stretches his stamina any way.
Ignore his last run and instead focus on the win on the 19 November. He had Gracious Tom (subsequent class 4 winner) and Cappananty Con (impressive winner on Monday) behind that day and was equally impressive on the clock.
The early pace wasn’t strong, but Roundabout Magic tracked the leader and then quickened with a rapid 21.81s closing sectional. I gave him an adjusted sectional rating of 70 for his win, which suggests he is still well handicapped.
Spin Top is the big danger but he rather had the run of the race last time and previously looked exposed. He could set it up for Roundabout Magic to swoop and win.
