Lingfield Tips: Dungannon

Finished 16th on his last start but ran a blinder considering the draw bias against him.

Dugannon’s 16th place finish at Doncaster was one of the most frustrating results I’ve experienced all year and like connections I’m out to recoup losses in the 2.30 Lingfield.

Having been punted in from 20/1 to 7/1 on his last start, he was expected to run well but everything went wrong from the gates. Jimmy Fortune opted to take Dungannon up the unfavoured far rail, racing in a small group of five. He won that mini-battle comfortably, finishing 9.5 lengths ahead of Ballista (who franked the form with a Listed win at Lingfield), but he had no chance against the main pack.

Dungannon steps up to six furlongs today, but he looks equally effective over both sprint trips, having won over 5f and 6f during his career. The key factor is the drop down in class. He races in a class 3 handicap for the first time since June 2011 - when he won. At 6/1 (BetVictor) he looks the value bet.
