Lingfield Tips: Colonel Mak

Jamie Spencer has a 45% strike rate for David Barron on the all-weather and they have the horse to score again.

The overnight moves in the betting market have changed the complexion of the 2.45 at Lingfield. Oasis Dancer looks a big danger having won his last race in fine style but at 11/4 (Ladbrokes) the odds are plenty short enough. Capone is another likely candidate but his odds are equally skinny. This is a class two handicap for horses rated up to 100, so it is no push over.

At the current prices, Colonel Mak is the value bet at 10/1 (Boylesports). He finished fourth in the Ayr Gold Cup and has a class two victory to his name. He is a top sprint handicapper.

The concern is that he is making his debut on the all-weather but those worries melt away when you know he is in the care of David Barron. The trainer from Maunby, North Yorkshire has a 23% strike rate on the all-weather. His record improves further when teaming up with Jamie Spencer.

Spencer has 9 wins from 20 rides for the yard on the all-weather, a remarkable 45% strike rate with £18.20 level stakes profit over the last five seasons. I’m backing the stable/jockey combination to get the best out of Colonel Mak.
