Lingfield Tips: Cliffords Reprieve

Often the application of headgear can make a dramatic difference to a horse’s performance. That is the case with Cliffords Reprieve, who races in the 1.20 at Lingfield.

Since he was fitted with blinkers, he has finished 133, the best form of his career. By all accounts, he was quite the tearaway, and I remember seeing him dump Seb Sanders on the way to post at Kempton. Thankfully, he has calmed down and that has translated into improved results.

In his last two races Cliffords Reprieve has been held up, allowing him to finish his races much more strongly. He was third behind the useful Jimmy Ryan and would have been closer if he had not been hampered. He has since followed up with another third place in a higher grade.

Having finished 1.5 lengths behind the 70 rated Royal Bajan, I expect Clifford’s Reprieve is due a hike from his current mark of 58. His form is rock solid and on paper he looks well handicapped.
