Lingfield Tips: Bussa

Won four times on the all-weather last winter and is stating to look well-handicapped again. Chris Caitlin takes over from an inexperienced apprentice.

The 2.00 Lingfield looks a trappy affair at first glance but I’m happy to oppose the top two in the betting on the basis they were both flattered last time out in strongly run races.

An end-to-end gallop is often a rarity in Lingfield sprints and it is therefore doubtful whether Joyous or Presumido can replicate their recent form.

At bigger prices, the David Evans runners catch my eye. One Way Or Another was in cracking form during the autumn before a step up in trip and grade stopped his winning run. Back amongst modest company he can be given a squeak.

However, Bussa is a massive price on the pick of his form. Last winter he hit a purple patch on the all-weather finishing 341112221273 and reaching a peak of 72.

He’s not been in the same form recently but he’s had excuses. On his last two starts he was ridden by the very inexperienced Gearoid Brouder but was never beaten by more than 5.25 lengths.

With Chris Caitlin in the saddle and back down to a useful looking handicap mark he is overpriced at 20/1 (Coral).
