Lingfield Tips: Athenian Garden
Has a poor strike rate but a previous course and distance winner and has shown a modicum of ability recently.
Athenian Garden has a wretched record of 1 win in 28 starts but the 5.20 Lingfield is a bad race and we are getting a fair price.
If you take out her two performances in amateur events then she has actually been running ok. On the 17 January she was held-up in a slowly run race but was still travelling nicely before being chopped off in the home-straight. Despite the interference she clocked the third fastest closing sectional.
It was a similar story last time out. A slow start meant she raced further back than ideal but she finished strongly with the second fastest closing sectional and a reasonable speed rating given the grade.
She is quirky and difficult to win with but she has tasted victory over course and distance before and is worth the risk at 15/2 (William Hill).
