Lingfield Tips: Aqua Ardens

Turf form best ignored, as he seems happiest on the all-weather. Trainer capable of getting one ready after a long break.

There are several reasons why Aqua Ardens is a big price for the 2.20 Lingfield, but none of them are strictly relevant.

He’s barely beaten a horse in his last four starts but the races were on turf, three on them with the going described as soft. He simply might not like turf and/or soft ground. On his last three all-weather starts he’s finished no worse than fifth, winning once.

The betting market might be put off by his 129-day absence but trainer George Baker is capable of getting horses ready after a long break. He has a strike rate of 17.8% with runners returning to the track after a 100-day absence or more. That is actually better than his overall strike rate.

With the two negative marks against him erased, he could run significantly better than his 8/1 (William Hill) quote.
