Lingfield Tip: Norville
Well drawn in stall one, the first time he’s had any luck with the draw this winter. Could dictate affairs in a race short on pace.
I’m starting to sound like a broken record tipping Norville every week but he’s not enjoyed any luck this winter - hopefully that will change in the 2.45 Lingfield.
A 5.5 length defeat on 4 February might look hopeless but he performed much better than the bare form. He chased an overly strong pace and was never going to get home at seven furlongs, a trip that stretches his stamina. The snow and slow riding track didn’t help either, but he managed to finish highest of the quartet who forced the pace.
A series of poor draws this winter haven’t helped his chances either. Norville is at his best when racing up with the pace, a position he has failed to secure from wide draws. Berthed in stall one he has no excuses today and with little pace in the race he should be able to hit the front early on.
Palace Moon is the obvious danger, but I wouldn’t go overboard with his conditions win at Kempton. The field are more closely matched than the betting suggests, with Norville due a change in fortune at 10/1 with Paddy Power.
