Lingfield Tip: Fantasy Fighter
In a tight contest the horse is overpriced. Change of stable could eek out the necessary improvement.
The 5.00 at Lingfield is a typical all weather handicap, low in quality and evenly matched in ability, any horse could win. Valmina is 11/4 favourite and that price is plain wrong. His last win flatters him; it was only his second win in 29 starts. Of his main rivals, one was a five furlong specialist and the other hung badly right in the straight. The time wasn’t anything special and the margin of victory deceptive.
At the opposite end of the scale Fantasy Fighter ran much better than his bare form last time out. Although he finished eighth he was only 1.5 lengths behind the winner. Trapped on the inside, he was the last horse to make his move and forced to race down the slower part of the track. On another day he could have easily finished in front of Highland Harvest and Defector, both shorter in today’s betting.
The horse has a good strike rate of 6/36 on the all weather and the recent move to the underrated trainer John Long might bring out the necessary improvement to win.
