Lingfield Racing: Jimmy Ryan

Jimmy Ryan

Unlucky when forced wide around the bend, the race should be set up from a better draw.

The 4.30 at Lingfield is all pace. Of the nine participants, five like to make the running and get a lead. That will not be possible. If they race each other too early for the lead, they will run out of steam at the finish and set it up for a closer.

Of the horses that like to come from off the pace, only Jimmy Ryan is a specialist at today’s trip – five furlongs. His three runs over course and distance this winter have been very solid. Indeed, I tipped him last time out when he finished a close sixth. He was unfortunate that day as he was posted six deep round the bend. In such a close race the extra distance he had to travel cost him.

Today he is drawn in stall one. That should allow him to bag the inside rail and go the short way round. If he can find the gaps as the leaders tire in the straight, then he can get his deserved win.
