Lingfield Tips: First In Command

In 2012, he never finished outside the top-3 when racing over 5f. Yard have started the new season in red-hot form.

It is a big advantage being drawn near the stand’s rail on Lingfield’s turf sprint course but in stall six First In Command is near enough to make his presence felt. Apart from perhaps Titus Gent, the horses on his outside are all hold-up horses and there is a good chance Eoin Walsh can get his mount over to the rail.

In terms of ability, he is good enough to win the race. Last season he was never outside the top-three when racing over 5f, winning four times. As a result he shot up the handicap but he proved at the Curragh that he could compete against stronger opposition, finishing second in the valuable Rockingham Handicap.

Trainer Daniel Mark Loughnane has enjoyed a tremendous start to the year, sending out 14 winners at a 22% strike rate. With the yard enjoying a purple patch, I’m surprised First In Command is 13/2 (Boylesports) in the betting.
