Epsom Derby Tip: Recital

Recital

Aiden O’Brien has turned up mob-handed and this is the best of the lot.

After a quiet 2010 by his high standards Aiden O’Brien is ready to take the UK by storm again. A trainer this talented doesn’t stay out of the winners enclosure for long. Six colts travel across the Irish Sea to take their chances at Epsom and the best of the lot is Recital.

A winner in three of his four starts, he won the Derrinstown Stud Derby trial in striking fashion. Sent to win his race, he cruised to the front with two furlongs to go and won comfortably my 1.5 lengths. Like many Montjeus he retains his sire precocious ability with a quirky nature. When hitting the front he ran green and was almost impossible to ride. The strong headwind probably unsettled him, but the visible inexperience suggests there is still more to come.

After the race jockey Kieren Fallon nominated the horse as the best of O’Brien’s Derby candidates. I’m inclined to agree.
