Early Gift at Lingfield
Trainer and jockey both have 20%+ strike rates in January and the hot duo team up for today's selection.
The 1.50 at Lingfield today brings together jockey and trainer who individually are enjoying excellent Winters and team up on today’s selection Your Gifted.
Trainer Pat Morris is in excellent form his last 14 runners have yielded: 3 winners, 4 seconds and 2 thirds. This is even better when you consider he tends to operate with a string of moderate horses.
Apprentice jockey Matthew Cosham has been in equally sparkling form and is 5-22 in January a 23% strike rate. Still at the start of his career with only 15 winners to date he is getting regular rides for David Evans and is one to look out for this summer.
As for the horse Your Gifted looks a quirky filly and regularly runs in eye-shields or blinkers (both left off today) but there is a fair amount of ability there. Once rated in the 70s in Ireland, she was only beaten 7 lengths by Dick Turpin in her 2yo career. Clearly she is not up to that level but four second places on the spin tells me there is something there and Pat Morris has managed to get the filly to place in over half her runs for him.
She needs a decent pace to aim at which she will get with Ten Down in the race and if she can slowly be brought into the race and kidded into the lead she should win. Matthew Cosham a man riding out of his skin has the confidence and talent to do this.
